A Perfect Day for Practice

A local pilot in a Piper Cub practices landing on skis at Skagit Regional Airport on Thursday.
Burlington – Air traffic at Skagit Regional Airport has been light during the past few snowy days, and just one flight plan was filed for an incoming aircraft today. But that was just fine with a local pilot who took the opportunity to practice takeoffs and landings in a ski-equipped aircraft this morning.
Port of Skagit crews have kept the main runway, RW 10-28, open during daylight hours throughout the snow event. They also have supplemented Skagit County plow crews to keep Higgins Airport Way and the roads in Bayview Business Park passable. The alternate runway, RW 04-22, remains snow-covered.
