New Port Commissioner Takes Oath of Office

Incoming Port of Skagit Commissioner Steve Omdal (left) takes the oath of office from Skagit County Auditor Jeanne Youngquist.

Burlington – Steve Omdal, newly elected Port of Skagit commissioner for District 2, took the oath of office today. He will take part in his first port commission meeting on Jan. 10.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started,” Omdal said. “I have a lot to learn, so I’ll be doing more listening than talking while I get up to speed.”

Omdal, of Burlington, defeated incumbent commissioner Jerry Kaufman in the November election. The new port commissioner resigned from his seat on the Fire District 6 commission following the election to avoid the possibility of a conflict of interest. The fire district provides protection for the port’s Skagit Regional Airport and Bayview Business Park under an interlocal agreement.

In his new position, Omdal will serve as secretary of the Port of Skagit Board of Commissioners and the Port of Skagit Industrial Development Corp. during 2012.
