Port Commissioners Sign Earth Day Proclamation

Burlington – The Port of Skagit Board of Commissioners have signed a proclamation honoring April 22, 2011, as Earth Day.

In signing the proclamation, the commissioners accepted a challenge on behalf of the port to reduce its energy use from May through August 2011 by 5 percent, compared to the same period in 2010.

The Port of Skagit is one of nine local jurisdictions participating in a three-year shared Resource Conservation Management Program through the Skagit Council of Governments to save money and become more sustainable in the use of energy and other utilities. According to SCOG, the port reduced its gross energy use for facility daily operations by 29.93 percent for the two-year period January 2009 through December 2010.
