Port Completes Building Renovation for FedEx at Airport

Burlington-- The Port of Skagit Board of Commissioners has accepted as complete the remodeling of a building at 11674 Higgins Airport Way on the port’s Skagit Regional Airport that is being occupied by FedEx.

The final construction cost, including design, miscellaneous items and sales tax, is $561,852.75, which was $30,542.50 under budget.

The commission awarded a contract in June 2010 to Advance Construction Inc. to renovate the one-story, 9,000-square-foot building. The project was designed by XA Architecture Co., a San Diego firm often used by FedEx, in consultation with port staff. Construction began last summer, and the project reached substantial completion on Oct. 15, 2010.

The Port has entered into a lease agreement for the building with the FedEx, which formerly occupied a smaller building on the flight line next to the Kitty Hawk Café. The new building is larger and more efficient, and its location away from the flight line is a safety improvement. FedEx moved into its new building in December.
