Port Completes New Industrial Building at Bayview Business Park

Burlington -- The Port of Skagit Board of Commissioners has accepted as substantially complete the new industrial building at 11656 Knudson Road in the port’s Bayview Business Park that will be occupied by The Holloman Group.

The commission awarded a contract in May 2009 to Tiger Construction Ltd, of Everson, to construct the one-story, 13,304-square-foot building, which was designed by Carletti Architects, Mount Vernon, in consultation with Port staff. Construction began with the clearing of the site in June 2009, and the project reached substantial completion on Jan. 7, 2010.

The final contract amount, including sales tax, is estimated at $1,665,440. The Port of Skagit received a $350,000 grant for the project from Skagit County. Kevin Ware, president of the Port Commission, said the grant was a key element of the funding package, supporting installation of infrastructure for the project.

“This is a good example of how a modest amount of seed money from the county commissioners can help to produce a significant return in jobs,” Commissioner Ware said.

The Port has entered into a lease agreement for the building with the Holloman Group, a woodworking cabinet manufacturer that is moving from a smaller space in the Bayview Business Park. The Port constructed this building for Holloman, which currently employs around 20 people, to help the company grow its operations. The new building is designed to accommodate light industrial and manufacturing businesses and can be internally reconfigured to allow for various tenants over its expected 50-year useful life.

Bob Nord, project manager for the Port, said the contractor has been unable to finish part of the exterior painting and hydro-seeding of the landscape due to seasonal weather and temperature limitations, so the port will withhold the cost of this work, $4,360, from payment until the contractor completes the work in early spring.
