Port Welcomes Canoe Journey Participants

La Conner – A sign posted at the La Conner Marina facing Swadabs Park across the Swinomish Channel welcomed participants in the Paddle to Swinomish Tribal Journey to their destination on July 25.

More than 100 canoes representing Salish tribes from British Columbia to Oregon arrived at the Swinomish reservation to take part in the activities, which will continue all week. A festive crowd of several thousand people was on hand to greet the canoes.

The Port of Skagit is offering off-site free parking at the La Conner Marina for land-bound visitors who can catch a shuttle to the Journey activities, and support boats for the canoes have been allowed free moorage at the marina’s guest docks.
