Ports Thank Skagit County for Grant Funding

Mount Vernon -- Representatives of the Port of Skagit and the Port of Anacortes made reports to the Skagit County Commissioners this morning on the projects they have completed with the help of grants from the county's Rural Distressed County Sales and Use Tax fund.

Skagit County receives a .09 percent rebate on sales tax from Washington State for public facility financing for the construction of infrastructure that stimulates economic development. In 2002 the Skagit County Commissioners adopted Resolution 17837, issuing bonds of $8,000,000 to finance public facility projects within Skagit County with the principal and interest being paid from sales tax collected. A Public Facilities Committee meets regularly to make recommendations to the commissioners.

Since 2002, Skagit County has granted $1,549,000 in Rural Distressed County Sales and Use Tax funds to the Port of Skagit for six economic development projects. To obtain a copy of the Powerpoint presentation on projects completed by the Port of Skagit, click here.
